Matyrker “Momentum” Album Review

Welcome to thefilthymag.net brought to you by, Filthy Music Empire Inc. Let’s talk a band with the heaviness of a 40 foot tree, and the skills of a master woodsman. Moving forward, I am honestly in love with this album by Martyrker, entitled, “Momentum”. This album has a lot of 2000’s hard rock feels mixed with 2020’s metalcore riffs to it. The band reminds me of a Black Veil Brides or later Killswitch Engage meets Staind or Starset.

I wanna start with “Momentum”. I love the feels. 3:12: starts with an amazing guitar solo / breakdown that leads into a interlude starting at 3:30 leading into a powerful chorus. “Onward” starts out with that sad emotional beginning, like the world has been left in ruin’s and the only way to go left is to move forward. Then the guitar come’s in more to set the vibe at 1:05 with a bit of hope sound with stronger vocal’s then around 3:00 a powerful break down comes in with scream’s that will send shiver’s down your spine. Following shortly 3:44 has that ending that remind’s me a bit of “In the end” by “Black Veil Brides”.

I had reached out to him personally to get more in depth detail about a couple of the song’s and there meaning behind each song, “Desolation” stood out for me when I seen it was dedicated to Dereck Schwappach. Matt’s response was “Momentum, it may have the most proud chorus I have ever written. I actually came up with the original idea for this while hiking in Alaska in 2013. Some times I get ideas by just popping into my head…it may be a beat, rhythm or even words. I was walking through forests and mountains and that main riff just came about along with the lyrics for the first verse. This track also hasn’t changed much throughout the years. This song is about unity and compassion and what we may be able to achieve together if we were like that a little more.” Claimed Matt, composer and main-brain behind “Momentum” by Martyrker.
