Burn Absolute has been kicking a lot of ass lately and pumping out new songs this year left and right. The “Deep South”, USA based group just cooked up another with their October 2024 release of “Hourglass”.
“Hourglass” surprised the absolute fuck out of me with the clean vocals. It reminds me of the Betraying the Martyrs. Honestly, as a whole, I get those vibes. That’s not in any way whatsoever a bad thing. I love that haunting kind of sound. And “I cannot forget” that breakdown, holy shit. I don’t often use the word “catchy” to describe things because I feel it’s sort of a throwaway compliment when you can’t think of anything else to say, but considering I did say things, I feel I can also include that the track is indeed, catchy. You don’t get too much of those clean vocals because the “chorus” is only repeated once and expanded into a fun, two-steppy riff. When I heard the name Burn Absolute (because I had no idea who they were before doing this review), I was not expecting the sound I got and I’m very okay with that. You will be too! It’s a pleasant blend of everything you like about metal, wrapped up with a neat little bow. If you’re looking for slam, you won’t find it here. Not throughout the whole song, at least… Yeast.
