An Absolutely LOADED Vault of Horrors REVIEW 2024

I was playing with my son, listening to Music Choice: Metal in the background. Suddenly, my ears are assaulted by blast beats after a short bout of ambience. I go, “Oh, who the fuck is THIS?” and look up to find it’s Aborted. Not only that, it’s NEW Aborted. NOT ONLY THAT, it’s NEW Aborted featuring Ben Duerr of Shadow of Intent!

But buckle the fuck up, because it only gets better…

Turns out, this is only track one off of an entirely new album, Vault of Horrors, that dropped March of this year (2024). By far the most interesting thing about this album is that all 10 tracks off of it feature other artists and bands! Ben Duerr is featured on the first track, “Dreadbringers”, and it’s the track that got me re-hooked on Aborted. Other featured artists and bands include: Francesco Paoli (Fleshgod Apocalypse) on “Condemned to Rot”, Johnny Ciardullo (Angelmaker) on “Brotherhood of Sleep”, Despised Icon on “Death Cult”, and six more that I’ll let you have fun finding out on your own!

The guitarwork is sublime. I love me some guitar solos, and Aborted & Co. do not disappoint! Having each song be a feature makes them stand out on their own, so nothing feels repeated. They all stand out on their own.

It’s great to see bands that have been around since the 90’s still cranking out new tunes and interacting with other members of the metal community. Waregem, Belgium’s Aborted has been around since 1995 proving that they have no intention of fading out of relevancy in the metal scene. If you’ve been itching for some new music from a band you probably listened to in high school, Aborted has you covered here, while also giving you nods to ones you listen to now. A Vault of Horrors awaits you!
