In the age of the internet, every musician with a smartphone is able to showcase their gear, technical abilities, and tastes to the entire world at the tap of a button. Many of them (myself included) have been able to amass followings, secure gigs, and even be discovered by the artists that they cover. Guitarist Ben Vajgrt is one such player who pulls off something many axe-wielders dream of: a note-perfect cover of a Van Halen tune. While it’s unlikely that the band would replace the late, great Eddie Van Halen for a reunion tour, Vajgrt would be the ideal candidate to step into those lofty shoes. His cover of “Eruption” – the pinnacle of Van Halen’s shredding and compositional abilities for many – is quite astounding to watch. Vajgrt does what many musicians who record themselves for the internet shy away from: delivering the entire performance in one take with not cutaways to other angles, proving he is the real deal. Check him out at the link below to see what I mean, and give him a well-deserved subscribe.
